Finding Your Perfect Red

Red lipstick seems to be that staple piece in a lot of people's makeup kits. It can make a simple natural looking face go to more formal within seconds. I personally don't tend to wear a bright red shade that often. I go for more darker shades of red as they are closer to my personal style. I decided that I would share with you my 4 perfect red shades that vary from being bang on bright red to being a little darker. The majority of these except for one are drugstore so they are easy enough to buy and get your hands on.

Starting with the bright red lips, the one I tend to use for when I'm maybe going out for the night or just want something a bit bright on my lips than my normal lipsticks is the Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick in the shade Ruby Tuesday 715. This does swatch as a fairly pink shade but when applied on your lips this goes as a bright pure red. This is brighter than that standard red shade. This tends to dry down semi matte as it still maintains a slight bit of shine to it. For wear this is pretty strong, I tend to have to reapply it after a full meal. There will only be a little bit of it that has worn away so really it doesn't do bad. This retails normally for £7.99 which is good really for a drugstore red lipstick but it is currently on offer at Superdrug for £5.99 so you might as well cash in on it.

Moving onto the pure red shade is one from Maybelline. Towards the beginning of this year they released their Colour Sensational matte lipstick range. I managed to pick up two of their lipsticks from this range which I will be mentioning both on here today. The first one is Siren in Scarlet 965. This from the looks of it has a slight orange tint to it. When I apply it to my lips you get that pure red shade. From the second it is on your lips it stuck down there for life, I can wear this all day and get through two meals and a couple of drinks before it starts to wear a little. My most favorite part about this is that it is matte, I might have mentioned this before on here but I am really not a fan of lipglosses or anything that has a bit of shine to it on my lips. As I have oily skin I always worry that my oiliness plus maybe a lip gloss is just going to make my face look like a load of oil. Focusing back on the lipstick I love it, for me it isn't too bright like the Max Factor one, this shade is a little less daring for me and I have no problem wearing it at all. This retails for £6.99 which is even cheaper than the Max Factor one when it is at it's normal retail price.

Now this next shade is my absolute favourite, like I said at the beginning of the post I am a lover of darker shades when it comes to red lipsticks. I love more of a berry shade rather than that pure red shade. This one again from the Maybelline Colour Sensational Matte range in Divine Wine 975 is beautiful. I was scared that it would be too dark and wash out my face but Maybelline really did well here. I have never been Maybelline's biggest fan it's the one brand I don't tend to look at all the time but after the two lipsticks I am showing you today my opinion has definitely changed on the brand. This wears the same as Siren in Scarlet if not a little better. The lipstick doesn't feel drying which is a big thing for me. As I normally apply this in the morning and get it to wear through whilst I am at work as I don't have time to stand there and re-apply it or put lip balm on. In terms of application I would say this one is a bit smoother to apply than the Siren in Scarlet one but nonetheless they are both beautiful shades.

The last shade I will be focusing on is a new one for me, I picked this up a couple of weeks ago and have loved it ever since. Similar to Divine Wine this is a darker red shade but more towards being a brown shade, it's the NYX Liquid Suede in Vintage. I personally didn't expect myself to like this one as much as I did as I have always been a little scared of trying a browner shade incase it just doesn't work with my face. In terms of application this goes on smoothly, I would say to apply a thin layer of this and build it up that way as at first this was slightly patchy. Like the other liquid suedes I own the finish is that matte finish with a slight shine to it. They aren't sticky and if anything they compliment the colour. I can go through quite a few meals before this decides to go anywhere which is all I want really from a liquid lipstick. This retails at £6.50 which in my opinion is a steal as I would probably pay a lot more for these just based on the formula and wear of them. If you want to read my view on more of the liquid suede shades I will leave it here

So there we have it, my top 4 red shades that I wear every now and then, if you have any personal favorite red shades mention them down below and I could be trying them out soon.

                                 Until next time, Chloe!
