The Kylie Lip Kit Dupe? Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit
The Kylie Jenner lip kits went into full force last year, selling out within seconds taking the makeup world by storm. From the cute packaging, strong shade range and the brand itself which is Kylie Jenner these were one of the hardest liquid lipsticks to get your hands on. Lots of companies since then have brought out their own liquid lipsticks but nothing has been an exact dupe to the Kylie Lip kits.
Makeup Revolution recently revealed their version of Kylie Lip kit. The Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit includes the liquid lipstick and lip contour pencil just like Kylie's does. This range features over 8 shades from your simple nudes to even some metallic shades as well. Makeup Revolution really does go all out when it comes to creating a dupe product. I picked up the shades Glory and Royal to test out today.
The packaging is quite simple and sticks to the black and gold theme as with most Makeup Revolution products. It's not that similar to Kylie's packaging but you can definitely see where the inspiration comes from. Inside the box you get the lip pencil and the liquid lipstick. Focusing on the lip pencil first, for both of the shades I have this performs amazing. It is so soft and creamy and it barely has to touch your lips before any colour is there. I tend to use this to line around the outline of my lips to help the overall look neater. You can just where the lip pencil on it's own if you really wanted. I did this for a couple of days and you still get the colour and finish it's just easier to come off with food or drinks so watch that a little bit.
Moving onto the liquid lipsticks, the first one I got was Glory which is this deep brown colour. I've not ventured into this shade much and I didn't find that the nude shades of this range were really me. If you want that pure baby pink type nude then they're a winner for you. This swatches beautifully and doesn't separate or apply unevenly. On the lips it is a little tricky at first to do. I found that starting from the middle of my lip made it go patchy because you're applying more product to that area than anywhere else so I started from the sides and this helped to even it out. Once applied the colour is really nice, it takes a bit of working to get it right but once it's on I was really impressed with the colour.
Moving onto Royal this is a deep plum shade that I fell in love with instantly, this applied the same as Glory except it was a little easier to apply to begin with as this seems to be a lot stronger in pigment. The end result is really this deep plum colour. But if you want more of a pinky plum colour then I suggest not using the lip pencil as it helps to darken the edges and bring it more to that dark bold plum colour.
The lip kits retail for £6 compared to the $29 Kylie Jenner Lip Kits this is a steal. You are getting a pigmented lip colour that lasts all day and doesn't smudge or transfer throughout the day. This is a good idea if you want to commit to the Liquid lipstick hype but you don't want to spend so much money on a Kylie Jenner Lip Kit until you know you like the liquid lipstick look.
Overall, I can't rave about these enough. I'm really impressed with the new Makeup Revolution products they are bringing out and I cannot wait to try more. If you have any recommendations for me comment them down below and I could be reviewing them next.
Until next time, Chloe!
