What's In Ya Birchbox

I feel like this is such an old school post but after looking at it for years and weighing up all the pros and not really considering the cons I finally signed up for a Birchbox! I remember they were in for so long so many years ago and the world became filled with beauty box subscriptions. Now you can get fashion boxes, food boxes (Logs straight on to graze and gets a subscription box), and even Period boxes! There's a subscription box for everything and it was time I gave them a go.

I'd love to see what the opinions are on these beauty boxes, for me I wanted to try one to see how it went as I know a lot of them to have customisation options whereas some are a random lot of products suited for you. I think being able to customise your box to what you want and will use was a key thing for me as I want to reduce waste and say au revoir to any products I won't have any real use for.

With Birchbox and other subscription companies, they often ask you to fill out a short questionnaire detailing what you like and skin and hair concerns are. From this it is meant to help tailor the box to you, for me this was a big thing and I really wanted to compare the items I got in the box and how well this matched to me. As I know with a lot of boxes they throw in general products anyone can use.

Birchbox helps to suit your beauty needs and help you explore new products, the boxes often contain a range of samples and then a couple of full-size items. For me, this was my first box so I had a fairly neutral opinion of it from the start. I think with the customisation element it will always be tricky to match everyone perfectly so out of the 6 products I got I'd say am happy with 4/6 which are pretty good going really. The boxes are priced at £10 a month with £2.95 postage and packaging a month, this price is flexible and depending on their packages you can pay for 6 months, a year, or just the one-off box to get you going.

You can cancel the subscription at any time which I really appreciate as some months I might want to declutter and with this feature, it allows you the option to. Each month focuses on a theme, the theme for this month was girl power and each box bought contributes to a chosen charity.

In my first box I received the Dr PawPaw Original Clear Balm, the Chella Eyebrow Cream, a NUXE Creme Prodigieuse Body Gel Cream, a nice sample of the Generation Clay ultraviolet brightening clay mask, and a full size of the Beauty Crop "You go Girl Bronzer" and as an added bonus there was a sample of the Charlotte Tilbury Scent of a Dream Perfume

It was a pretty good range of products, in the questionnaire they asked a whole range of questions asking me about what products I wanted to try and I think that really shaped the products in this. The main things most people received was the Generation Clay mask and the Charlotte Tilbury perfume sample. I think although they were general gifts they still felt very specific to me and especially with the mask, everyone knows that I love a good mask.

The bronzer and the lip balm have been the other two favourites out of the box, they're products that I would use the most and the balm has been a really nice product to try. I'll hold my hands up and say that I don't often think about lip balms but this has been really nice to use and just have on the go. The perfume sample is pretty nice to have, I've used it sparingly as it's the kind of scent I'd like to use now and then and for special occasions.

For the other two products, the Chella Eyebrow Cream isn't worth it for me. The main issue is the shade is taupe which colour wise doesn't suit my eyebrows so the product just doesn't really have any place for me. I've heard mixed reviews on it but I think if your eyebrows are lighter then this could be the product for you. I also haven't really used a lot of the NUXE Body Gel cream, I think it's a good product and I've heard a lot about it, I just think it's more of a treat product for me. I had a self-care night the other night and sorted out my skin and it worked good but I think I would have to use this quite regularly for it to have any real long lasting effect on the skin and for me, I have a lot of products at the moment that does this.

Overall the box was pretty good, am pretty impressed with the box I think the customisation questionnaire does factor into the box but I don't think you'll ever get a box that's 100% to everyone's taste but is quite happy with the bits I've got as it's a mix of products that really link to what I liked. For me, the mask is the best part and it's something that I would probably re-purchase the same as the balm. I want to try a few more boxes and give my opinion maybe 6 boxes in.

Is anyone else still into their subscription boxes? Let me know!

Until next time, Chloe!
